Obituary: Notice of death of author Nobuo Kiuchi
My father, Nobuo Kiuchi, passed away at 2:30 p.m. on April 24, 2023. He had been bedridden for a long time and was cared for at home. On the day he died, coincidentally, my daughter and her husband, and my grandson and his wife came to visit him. He took his last breath while being watched by the whole family. It was the happiest and most blissful end, listening to the voices of his family. I am truly glad that we were able to see him off as a family. I have no regrets either. My father lived through four eras: Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa. He also experienced the harsh times of war, but I think most of his 97 years were happy ones. At the end, he left this world holding my mother’s hand, showing us the ultimate love story. My father, who was loved by his family, friends, and people overseas, was truly a winner and a champion of life. I hope he will proudly report to his comrades in heaven that his own paintings became UNESCO Memory of the World. And I am proud to be the son of Nobuo Kiuchi. I will carry on his thoughts from now on. Please rest assured that we will protect our mother as a family. Also, due to the spread of COVID-19, we held the funeral for him with only our family, without inviting anyone.
